Aurora Geophysics conducted tests of vector electrical exploration in the Karaganda region

Aurora Geophysics Limited, the leading geophysical company in Kazakhstan, is pleased to announce the introduction of vector measurement technology for induced polarization during the current field season. The company has successfully conducted experimental and methodological work at the promising Beshoky ore facility in the Karaganda region. The expansion of the range of applied techniques will allow our company to increase the efficiency of geophysical research during exploration.

The idea of vector research is to measure two horizontal components of the electric field (Ex, Eu) from a dipole source on the earth's surface. The values of the charge vector and the resistivity vector are calculated from the measured values. The technique is effective in conditions of a complex geological structure with isometric mineralization zones.

Experimental work on vector measurements was carried out on the well-known ore object of the Beshokinskaya square. The purpose of the work was to develop an optimal methodology for monitoring and processing data, as well as to evaluate economic indicators (determining work productivity). The observation points were staggered (Kennecott checker board) with an average distance of 300 m between them. The minimum distance of the receiving electrodes from the nearest electrode of the supply line was 300 m.

As a result of the work, a conductive zone in the central part of the survey area and an area of increased charging capacity in the northeastern part were identified.

Additionally, the analysis of the time characteristics of the VP decline was performed. The two-component Cole-Cole model was selected. The zone with increased charge capacity is more contrastingly manifested in the second component with a greater time constant, which is typical for ore inclusions.

For half of the work shift, a detailed survey was carried out on an area of 1.5 km2. The results demonstrate a good correlation of the anomaly with a known ore object. The work performed has confirmed the effectiveness of vector measurement technology and the readiness of Aurora Geophysics Limited to apply the technology to objects of any degree of complexity of the geological structure.
