Toronto, Canada, March 4, 2024 - Aurora Limited proudly hosted the fifth annual “Kazakhstan Day 2024”, an event dedicated to the significance of Kazakhstan's contribution to the mining industry and highlighting new investment opportunities in the country. This event, held in collaboration with industry leaders and government representatives, highlighted Kazakhstan's growing potential in the global mining industry.
The day began with a meaningful welcome speech by Kanat Sharlapayev, Minister of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Minister Sharlapayev spoke about the prospects and strategic vision of the mining sector in Kazakhstan, in particular, mentioning the adoption of a new mining code developed taking into account the interests of investors. He stressed that investments in exploration have increased significantly, and in 2022 alone they reached about $ 250 million. In addition, the Minister stressed the ongoing efforts to improve legislation, in particular, to reduce the requirements for ensuring liquidation payments in order to further increase the investment attractiveness for the development of the junior market in Kazakhstan.
In his speech, Andres Blanco, head of Xcalibur Smart Mapping, a leading company in the field of aerogeophysics, spoke in detail about an innovative pilot project in Northern Balkhash. This program, based on a Memorandum with the National Geological Survey of Kazakhstan, provides for a comprehensive regional aerogeophysical survey, including magnetic, radiometric, gravimetric and electromagnetic methods, on the territory of Northern Balkhash and the Kalbanarim rare metal zone. The aim of the project is to create a modern, pre-competitive set of geophysical data to attract private investment in exploration in Kazakhstan.
The main event of Kazakhstan Day 2024 was the premiere of the documentary "Northern Balkhash - The Next Copper Elephant", presented by Lakeside Minerals and Trevor Wright. The film clearly demonstrates the potential of Kazakhstan in discovering world-class deposits, which creates prerequisites for increased attention and investment from the world community. Said Sultanov, Aurora Limited, presented a detailed overview of the development of the exploration sector, noting the growth of investments and a significant influx of global mining giants and junior companies to Kazakhstan. This trend points to promising exploration opportunities, demonstrating the country's growing potential as a major location for mining activities.
Sultanov also announced the creation of the Kazakhstan Chamber of Mines. This major event is designed to support and defend the interests of investors and exploration companies in Kazakhstan, further strengthening the country's desire to become a leading destination for investment and operations in the mining industry, especially for young exploration companies seeking to take advantage of the rich opportunities in the region. Aurora Limited expresses its deep gratitude to all participants, organizers and sponsors for the fact that “Kazakhstan Day 2024” was a great success. We continue to provide comprehensive exploration services and support foreign investors in harnessing Kazakhstan's rich mining opportunities. Kazakhstan Day at PDAC 2024 not only demonstrated the promising future of Kazakhstan's mining industry, but also facilitated important meetings that highlight the depth of our commitment to global standards and partnerships. The most important event was the meeting of CRIRSCO Chairman Garth Kirkham with Minister of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kanat Sharlapayev. This meeting is a turning point, demonstrating our commitment to comply with the best international practices and enhance the global competitiveness of the mining sector in Kazakhstan.
Such high-level discussions are vital for the development of international cooperation, the exchange of experience and the promotion of reforms that make Kazakhstan an attractive place for investment in the mining industry. Working with global leaders and organizations such as CRIRSCO further strengthens our resolve to ensure sustainable and responsible development in our mining exploration and investment activities. This year's PDAC conference was especially significant for us, as it provided an invaluable opportunity to meet again with long-time partners and friends, as well as to welcome new faces in our environment.
