Aurora, in collaboration with its long-term partner, Australian company GroundProbe, deployed the SSR-FX georadar at Kacharsky mine of Sokolov-Sarybai Mining Production Association (SSGPO) JSC (ERG).

Safety is the single most important aspect in mining operations. GroundProbe is the global leader in Slope Stability Radar (SSR) systems, with two from every three deployed being GroundProbe radars, and promoting a “safety first” principle around the globe for over 15 years now.

Slope Stability Radars are used for critical and background monitoring of slope movement in open-pit mines. They detect possible failures of the rock mass, allowing sites to initiate the evacuation of personnel and machinery in a timely manner. This helps avoid production halts, loss of life and equipment due to an unforeseen slope failure.

The technology has already been employed in Russia and Kazakhstan and is becoming a must-have piece of equipment for safe and productive mining operations. GroundProbe have more than 400 systems deployed in 29 countries across the globe, which have detected over 900 failures, and in the last year alone more than 20 lives were saved with the help of GroundProbe systems.
